The Well Isn't Dry for Oil & Gas Careers

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Calgary, AB - August 30, 2009 - Despite the current dip in natural gas prices, officials anticipate the stepped up demand from emerging markets in China and India will "drive up" prices. While this appears to be promising news for Albertans hoping to embark on careers in the oil and gas industry, Alberta's leading private career training provider insists that a skills-based education is essential for students eager to enter this competitive job market.

Students have the opportunity to gain an advantage with the Oil and Gas Administrative Assistant program at Reeves College (for more information http://reevescollege.ca).

"The oil and gas industry in Alberta, and specifically in the Lloydminster area, is still a viable area in which to find long term employment," says Reeves College OGA instructor Beth Wilson.  "The downturn in the economy has tightened the job prospects, but with the advantage of a focused education as an Oil and Gas Administrative Assistant, our graduates have continued success in finding permanent employment."

Students in the Oil and Gas Administrative Assistant program learn to become jacks-of-all-trades, focusing on the day-to-day operations of oil and gas companies of all sizes. They also master industry terminology and learn the fundamental concepts related to geology and geophysics. OGA students develop a broad knowledge of exploration, land scouting, well drilling, production operations and refining; as well as the industry's business and management methods.

"The program is a good choice for both students with no prior industry experience wishing to enter this field and for students wishing to advance their careers with an industry-focused diploma," adds Wilson. "Students also learn many skills which they can use in other positions and industries, including project development, report writing, teamwork, strategic planning, and effective communication skills."

Reeves College is currently accepting applications for the Oil and Gas Administrative Assistant program at campuses in Calgary, Edmonton and Lloydminster.
