These famous examples may just convince you to become a paralegal

Calgary, AB - November 10, 2010 - Most law related television shows and movies will no doubt contain the exciting life of an attorney  who solves cases, goes to court, puts the bad guy away for life, but once in a while, a paralegal or legal assistant will also have a starring role in these television shows and movies. While you may not become famous by becoming a paralegal, you can look at these famous examples to remind you how exciting the profession can be!

Legal Assistant and Paralegal Careers in Hollywood

Erin Brockovich, played by Julia Roberts, may be one of the most famous movie/television paralegals to date, whose movie was actually based on the true story of an unemployed single mother who becomes a legal assistant and basically brings down a power company. Her duties as a legal assistant in the movie were somewhat standard although at times excessive, but the 2 million dollar bonus check she received at the end of the movie is by far not standard.

Does this sound like a career you'd like to pursue? Find out about the Paralegal program available at Reeves College!

Drop Dead Diva is a television show about an overweight attorney and model who somehow ends up switching bodies. The attorney, Jane Binghum, has an assistant, Teri Lee (played by comedienne Margaret Cho). Drop Dead Diva also includes "Fred" who is a guardian angel/legal assistant. It's a comical look at the duties taken on during a paralegal career.

Della Street was a character in the popular Perry Mason television and movie series who was actually Mr. Mason's "confidential secretary". Her duties generally consisted of secretarial duties and those that a paralegal may be responsible for in a typical law environment.

Real-Life Paralegals

In addition to paralegals that are played in movies and on television are those stars that were real paralegals before becoming famous. Some include Patricia Heaton of Everyone Loves Raymond, Ellen DeGeneres and Richard Schiff of the West Wing.
