As of June 12, Alberta is currently in Phase 2 – so what does that mean for you? While you continue to study at home, you can electively meet with your classmates in a variety of settings such as local parks, restaurants, cafes, and more – at a safe distance – and go over notes or study for exams.

Many more businesses, and even tourist operations, are beginning to open their doors. While most businesses may not operate as they have historically, as long as you’re willing to abide by specific regulations including hand sanitizing before entering an establishment, maintaining a two-metre distance from people outside your bubble, wearing a mask when required, and more, you will be able to enjoy a range of different activities in your province this summer.

  1. Select gyms, exercise studios, and pools are open at limited capacities. Make sure you schedule your spot to attend a workout class, as many of these classes are operating on a first-come-first-serve basis. Before you go, check out the guidelines for pools and whirlpools in Alberta.

  1. Movies theatres and theatres are opening at reduced capacities. As of June 26, Cineplex opened the doors to six of their theatres across Edmonton and Calgary, however they will not be launching VIP food and beverage services to movie-goers at this time in order to comply with safe distancing measures. The remaining 13 theatres in Alberta were scheduled to reopen on July 3.

  1. You can partake in smart, safe, and respectful travel within Alberta. While out of province travel is not encouraged, you can enjoy a range of outdoor sightseeing at Lake Louise or visit the quaint, mountain town of Banff. If adventure is more your style, discover dinosaurs and fossils at the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller or the Columbia Icefield in Jasper.  For anywhere you plan to visit, make sure to call ahead to find out their policies and determine if a reservation is required.

Remember, despite all of these new protocols and guidelines, if you feel sick at any time, please stay home. Frequent hand washing, physical distancing, and limiting of social gatherings remains highly encouraged.
