Details on the recent cybersecurity incident

What Happened

In recent weeks, Reeves College experienced a cybersecurity incident where unauthorized third parties gained access to our IT systems, and to some of the personal information that was stored on our servers. Upon discovering the situation, we immediately took steps to contain any threat, reported the incident to law enforcement, and retained cyber forensic experts to conduct a comprehensive investigation. At this time, our investigation is ongoing and is expected to take several weeks. These incidents have not interfered with our ability to deliver our education services, except for a few minor disturbances.

Who Was Impacted?

Any individual impacted by this situation will be contacted separately on next steps. At this time, we are not aware of any misuse of personal information. However, we do encourage everyone to remain vigilant about unsolicited requests for financial or other personal information, and any unauthorized transactions.

What Can I Do to Protect Myself?

We recommend the following best practices relating to the protection of personal information for individuals:

  • Monitor your financial accounts. If you see anything that you do not understand or that looks suspicious, you should call your financial institution.
  • Update your online passwords and use complex and unique passwords. Do not use your Reeves College username or password for any personal online accounts;
  • Be cautious of any unsolicited communications (phone call, email, etc.) that ask for your personal information or refer you to a web page asking for personal information;
  • Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails; and
  • Report any incident to the appropriate authorities if you notice any suspicious activity, including police services or your financial institution.
  • If you have received a letter from Reeves College, we encourage you to subscribe to the free credit monitoring services to help you keep track of operations related to your credit or identity.

What Steps is Reeves College Taking?

Upon discovering the incident, Reeves College immediately took steps to contain any threat (including taking certain systems offline as a precautionary measure), reported the incident to law enforcement, retained cyber experts to conduct a comprehensive investigation, and notified our regulators.

We are not aware of any misuse of personal information at this stage. Any person affected is being notified and offered free credit protection services.

Going forward, Reeves College is taking a number of additional measures to strengthen its systems, and our teams are working diligently to resolve this situation as efficiently and responsibly as possible.
