Reeves College Brings the Health Care Aide Program to Two Campuses!

There is a growing demand for healthcare professionals nationwide. Research by the Canadian government reveals that the majority of healthcare workers join the workforce older than average but retire at a younger age, which is creating a steady wave of job openings and is projected to continue until 2022. To adapt to this growing demand, Reeves College is now offering the Health Care Aide program at two of its Alberta campuses: the Calgary City Centre and Edmonton City Centre.

Health care aides (HCAs) are trained to provide care for the young and elderly. Students enrolled in the program will not only learn about the fundamentals of anatomy and medical terminology, they will also gain a better understanding of how to take care of individuals suffering from chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s disease; cognitive impairment like dementia or Alzheimer’s disease; spinal injuries; developmental disabilities; and more.

While it is important to ensure that HCAs are trained to take good physical care of their clients, other aspects of their lives should not be neglected, which is why emotional and psychological care are also emphasized in the program. To ensure that students become adept at the skills and strategies they have learned in the classroom, Reeves College requires all students to take part in a field placement consisting of 200 hours where they will practice in the real world.

Aside from long-term care facilities, HCAs can also seek opportunities as residential care attendants, home healthcare workers, nursing aides, and in daycares. For more information on how to enroll in Reeves College’s 23-week Health Care Aide program in Alberta, click here or call 1-800-670-4512.
