Paralegals Pave the Way for New Businesses in Canada

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

No matter the industry, paralegals play an important role in the growth of businesses across the country. This is particularly true when one considers the prospect of an international partnership with businesses in the U.S. As globalization has brought many American organizations to Canada over the years, paralegals are playing a bigger role in helping people open a business in the country.

When consulting with a foreign company hoping to enter the Canadian marketplace, it is important to factor in tax and liability issues. Businesses can establish themselves as either a federal or provincial corporation, with separate taxes and regulations governing either choice.

Paralegals are tasked with discovering which option would be most advantageous for their client. Should the company opt to go public, they will be required to disclose much of their financial information, while if they remain private, they will not receive the same level of protection as larger corporate entities under the Canada Business Corporations Act.

The role of the paralegal is incredibly diverse and working in incorporation law is just one option. Students can start their journey towards a rewarding career in the legal field by enrolling in a paralegal course at Reeves College. Fill out the form to the right for more information.
