A changing economy requires a new approach to finding a stable career

Edmonton, AB – August 21, 2014 – A changing economy doesn’t mean there are less jobs available – you just have to know which sectors are in the highest demand. Reeves College is hosting a Provincial Open House on August 21, 2014 to help people corner the market and learn about the training options available to make their career aspirations a reality.

In Alberta, the oil sands continue to dominate the headlines, and that applies to available jobs too. The industry plays a massive role in the province’s economy and is in need of employees with a variety of skill sets. Hard labour isn’t the only thing oil and gas operations rely on. They also need top-notch administration staff, financial professionals and legal personnel. Reeves College has training programs in these exact fields, some of which can be completed in little more than six months.

Elsewhere in the province, the healthcare system continues to be in need of professionals that can keep up with changing technologies. Medical administration staff increasingly work with digital files and electronic healthcare protocols. Training on iPads at Reeves College gives graduates a leg up on the competition and the level of confidence needed for the job from day one.

“From the very beginning stages of planning curriculum for our programs, we work with industry insiders to ensure our students are receiving the right skills and training employers need,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for Reeves College. “We don’t want to waste students’ time focusing on courses they’ll never use in the real world. All of our course content relates 100% to the job they’ll perform after graduation.”

The Open House event will take place on August 21, 2014 from 6-8pm at each Reeves College campus. Check-in time is 5:30pm. Staff and faculty will be on hand for campus tours and to walk attendees through program offerings. Those in attendance will also qualify for a $1,000 scholarship to use toward tuition. There will be one scholarship available at each campus and will give students a jumpstart on the pursuit of their education.

Reeves College offers a variety of programs in the fields of business, healthcare, legal studies and art and design. With five campus locations throughout the province, Reeves College has been training Albertans since 1961.
