Things to Do in Calgary North

Students at the Calgary North campus have a wealth of things to see and do in the region.

Hikers and cyclists can head over to Nose Hill Park for some outdoor recreation along the park's many paths. Deemed a natural environment park, Nose Hill offers Calgary residents a bit of respite from the hustle of the city.

The popular Confederation Park is a preferred all-season recreational spot. With its bike paths, golf course, baseball diamonds and tennis courts, Confederation Park is a perfect location for Calgary residents to have some fun in the summer.  In the winter, the park is a great place to toboggan, cross-country ski and sightsee, especially during the annual Lions Club Christmas Light Display in December and January.

Two of the city's professional sports teams play Calgary North stadiums. The Calgary Stampeders of the CFL call McMahon Stadium home. The stadium is always abuzz during home games, especially when rival teams like the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the  Edmonton Eskimos come to town.

Over at Foothills Stadium, baseball fans can watch the Calgary Vipers take on other Golden Baseball League teams.

Ever since the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, the Calgary Olympic Oval has been regarded as one of the world's premier speed skating venues. It hosts numerous speed skating competitions and is the training facility of choice for many champion speed skaters. The Oval is also home to the Oval X-Treme of the National Women's Hockey League. When it's not hosting international tournaments or hockey matches, the Oval is open for public skating and other events. Located on the University of Calgary grounds, the Oval is also an indoor training facility for pole vaulting, long jump and sprinting.

A visit to the Calgary Zoo is always fun and educational. Visitors can see over 1,000 animals, learn about Africa, Australia, South America and Canada and stroll through the botanical garden.

Shoppers in Calgary North have plenty of retail space to browse, especially at Market Mall and Sunridge Mall. With over 150 stores each, these malls are the largest shopping centres in Calgary North and will definitely have something for everyone. The Deerfoot Outlet Mall offers an impressive assortment of brand name clothing shops, jewelry stores and appliance and home furnishing outlets.
