In the business world, new professionals may want to put away their cell phones and laptops during meetings. According to the latest Workmonitor survey from Randstad Canada, 75 percent of employees responded that they disapproved of colleagues answering their phones or responding to emails during meetings.

Mobile technology is the norm in today's society, with people around the globe attached to their iPhones, BlackBerrys or portable tablets at all times of the day. As a result, the line between work and personal time has started to blur, often allowing one to interfere with the other .

According to the survey, about 42 percent of Canadian employees claimed that they scheduled times during their day when they ignore their email inbox and the buzzing of their phones. On the other hand, approximately the same number admitted to feeling guilty about not completing their duties when they chose not to respond to emails or phone calls.

Recent business graduates must become accustomed to office policies and learn the proper etiquette when they enter the workforce.
